Server Maintenance Notification (April 30th 2017)

In order to make ourselves feel better about the aesthetics of our server racks, we will be performing maintenance in our datacenter cage on the evening of April 30th, 2017.

Technical and managerial staff will enter the cage some time after dinner, and they will then decide the specific changes that need to be made.

We expect these changes may involve running new cabling between routers and switches, and between switches and servers. They may also involve re-racking servers so that all the model types are grouped together in the rack and look pretty, no matter what the impact may be to their function and troubleshooting.

We promise not to leave your server offline for more than a day or two, but if that happens we’re probably sorry.

Server Maintenance Notification – Indefinite (February 25th 2017)

We will be performing perpetual updates on our servers starting this Saturday at 12am EST (5:00 UTC). The maintenance is required in order to keep our servers secure and up-to-date and our administrative team sane.

We’ll tell you that our website, blog and support forum may be momentarily unavailable around that time, when in reality they’ll be down for a few hours when we drop the wrong database and have to restore from backup — a backup that is stored at the home of one of our management team. We’ll tell you that we expect only a very short interruption of our form processing service (i.e. a few seconds while the web server software is restarting), but we won’t tell you that there is a good chance that an update will cause the service to fail because we didn’t test it first.

We won’t post updates, that might be helpful.

Thank you.
